The Four Types of Moisturisers
Did you know that moisturisers work in different ways?
Hydrate: Humectants attract moisture from the air which help the skin to stay hydrated. This can be hyaluronic acid, glycerine, urea or aloe vera. These ingredients help the skin to stay plump and hydrated.
Nourishment: Emollients fill the spaces in between the cells. They work great for very dehydrated skin leaving you with a smooth glow.
Barrier: Occlusives lock in the moisture into your skin, and keep all the good stuff inside.
Glue: Ceramides, we have these in our skin already. If you have dry skin it is likely that you have a low ceramide count. Ceramides help with moisture retention, and they keep your skin barrier intact.
When searching for a moisturiser, it is useful to understand how it will hydrate your skin. Especially if you’re tired of trying out different moisturisers. Learn what type of skin type you are, and go from there. Below I have created a hydration guide which is adult and child safe.

Step Three: Glue your skin together with a ceramide to keep your skin barrier intact.
